Thanks for stopping by! I’m Lani, and this is my blog about running. And about living in Chicago. And about wellness and fitness and nutrition. And about some inner struggles stuff (hopefully not too much of that stuff). But most of all, it’s about training for the 2015 Chicago marathon. I’m writing here because I love love love to talk about my workouts and I’ve realized my friends and family – as marvelous as they are – can only take so many of my mile-by-mile recaps, but I know there’s a world of runners out there who will understand and who might even find my blog worth reading!
Here’s what you need to know about me: I’m from Connecticut and lived in Washington, DC for ten years after graduating college. I moved to Chicago three years ago and I really dig the city, but I travel a lot for my job and for fun so I’m still getting used to it. I have the best friends and family in the world. My favorite food is ice cream and I am diehard UConn basketball fan.
I’m not exactly new to running but it’s only this year that I’ve been taking it a lot more seriously. Ever since I moved to Chicago I’ve been running once a week along beautiful Lake Michigan (my favorite part about the city), and in January I realized my runs were getting longer and I was feeling stronger. On a lark one weekend I decided to try running for 10 miles. When I finished and still felt good, I decided if I could do 10 I could do a 1/2 marathon, which I completed in April. I told myself if I felt okay getting through the 1/2, I’d enter the lottery for the full marathon in the fall.
So that’s where we’re at! I’m going to be training with the Chicago Area Runners Association (CARA), which means long group runs every weekend and shorter runs (plus cross training) during the week. I am really excited and really nervous. We’ll see how it goes!
